La porta Romea era la porta d'ingresso principale a Monteriggioni.
Su di essa si trovano sia la lapide del 1213 e sia la lapide del referendum di annessione all'Italia unita.
La porta era dotata di una pesante cancellata in ferro che velocemente veniva calata ad ogni attacco nemico.
Dalla porta Romea si accede alla bella Piazza Roma.
